“THIS IS FINE” PILOT TO WORLD PREMIERE AT 2026 PORTLAND PANORAMA FILM FESTIVAL
PORTLAND, OR — The highly anticipated pilot of This Is Fine, a sharp-witted, glitter-stained dramedy from This is Fine Productions is set to make its world premiere as part of the Northwest Series Showcase at the Portland Panorama Film Festival on April 19, 2026.
The American Dream is an iron mask with an eggshell-finish. In the aggressively un-weird suburbs of Portland, Charlie Henderson is "winning"—if winning means surviving the performance of "Perfect Mom" while her soul slowly leaves her body. But when a late-night doom-scroll leads her to Aeria PDX —a neon-lit sanctuary run by first-generation immigrant entrepreneur Zoe Singh— Charlie’s standard-issue life begins a vibrant, chaotic unraveling.
This Is Fine pokes a finger in the eye of the status quo, utilizing satire to explore the literal and metaphorical masks we wear—and the messy truths that emerge when they finally slip. While the pilot captures the specific, claustrophobic absurdity of the 2020 pandemic, it serves as the "patient zero" for a much larger story.
What began as a struggle to survive a global lockdown has evolved into a radical exploration of community as a survival strategy in 2026. By grounding the pilot in the moment the world first caught fire, the series creates a bridge to the "present-day horrors" we face now. In a world where our trans neighbors, immigrant families, and "weird" sanctuaries are under increasing legislative and social attack, the show’s trajectory has shifted: finding your people is no longer just a workout. It’s a riot.
“We wanted to tell a story about the light we build for each other when the systems around us are failing,” says co-creator Sam Bangs. “This Is Fine isn't a story about 'saving' anyone. It’s about the collective resistance of people who refuse to be quiet, even when the room is on fire. It’s a love letter to the defiant, the deviant, and the slightly unhinged.”
Featuring a diverse cast of local PNW talent, the pilot introduces an ensemble of characters navigating the jagged edges of identity: Angela Chandra as “Zoe,” a fierce entrepreneur drowning in private debt; Alexandra Fragoso as “Berry,” a pregnant receptionist weighing the grim math of bringing new life into a burning world; and Jamie K. Brown as “Max,” a nonbinary professional navigating the "normative gaze" of corporate and fitness spaces.
The premiere screening will take place at Open Signal and will be followed by a live Q&A with the creators and cast.
